Brussels (AP) – On Wednesday, the European Union legislature approved a new travel certificate that will allow people to travel between European countries without undergoing quarantine or additional coronavirus tests and pass it in time for the summer. Paved the way to entry.
The long-awaited certificate is intended to save the European travel industry and important tourist destinations from another bad holiday season. Large travel destinations like Greece are rapidly introducing certificates that can be used in both paper and digital formats.
Several EU countries have already started using this system, including Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Greece and Poland.
Traveling to 27 EU countries is now a trial period for travelers and airlines. There are various COVID-19 traffic light systems in the country, the green ones are considered safe and the red ones should be avoided. However, travel is confusing for everyone as each country has different rules and standards.
The new regulation on vaccination certificates was passed in two votes in the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France. The rules for EU citizens were adopted with 546 vs. 93, 51 abstained. There were 553 participants from outside the bloc, 91 abstentions and 46 withdrawals.
The vote has yet to be approved by EU countries, but it will likely be formal.
This means that from July 1st to the 12th month all EU member states have to approve the vaccination card. Issued for free, they prove that a person is either fully vaccinated against the virus, has recently been negative, or has recovered from the disease.
This rule is less enforced for six weeks to prepare each country.
Passports are issued by individual countries, not from the Central European system. Contains a QR code with enhanced security functions. Personal data will not be passed on to other countries.
“EU countries are encouraged not to impose further restrictions unless strictly necessary and proportionate,” said Juan Fernando Lopez Aguilar, a member of the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party who oversaw the vote in parliament.
Most immigrants from non-EU countries must be vaccinated upon entry, but can receive a certificate if the authorities of the entering EU country convince them of their suitability.
